[Geoffers] Mac OS 10.4: Tiger: In Mac OS 9 with Sherlock you could Index your HD and do almost exactly the same thing, so it rasies the question is Spotlight really new, or is it just bringing an OS 9 back into existance? There are, however, many differences: With Sherlock you had to Index your HD manually, and it would index your whole HD everytime, taking several hours to do one 60GB HD, with Spotlight, it does the inital index (well, if upgrading from a previous OS, if your doing a clean install it has all the index already saved), then, afterwards, it indexes files on the fly.
