Love the Mac > Spotlight University

[The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)] Another in the fine list of Mac OS X features that people seem to love or hate (Sherlock anyone?). I am a Spotlight booster and I'm not afraid to say it. I was just extolling the virtues of Spotlight to a co-worker when they asked, 'What's so grrreat about Tiger anyway?' (see what I did there?

[Scott Loftesness] Some Reflections on the "Post-Email World": Oh, while we still use Groove (some us using it via Virtual PC on Mac OS X), we're now much hungrier for a true cross-platform server-less file sharing solution. We don't use the rest of Groove's fancier tools -- file sharing (and, ideally, content-based searching ala Tiger's Spotlight) is what we need. Frankly, Groove's recent acquisition by Microsoft was a total turn off -- at least for us Mac OS X fanactics!

[Dan_ex_Japan] Mac OS X 10.4: Years of hunting through folders and sub-folders are now a thing of the past for me. I realized that “Spotlight”, the new find technology in OS X, will let me pinpoint any document on my drive with only a few typed words rather than a bunch of mouse clicks. Thus empowered I took all the collected work of years and, so to speak, scattered it on the floor. Spotlight finds exactly what I want faster than I can navigate to it in the Finder!

[david pitkin] Mac OS X Tiger: I got a new Macintosh mini last week and spent time using it as well as upgrading to Tiger. I have to say that spotlight and dashboard are pretty cool. I have a new iTunes problem now that I have...

[Tuaw.com] The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW): News.com is reporting that according to reliable sources, his Steveness will stride onto the WWDC Stevenote stage and shock us all by announcing Apple's switch to Intel based processors. The switch will be gradual with the Mac mini being the first Mac slated to use an Intel chip in mid 2006 with the PowerMac's joining them in mid-2007 (and I assume that the iBook would go in 2006, the Powerbook in 2007).

[Whiterabbits.com] Mac Net Journal: In the last year that I have been working for the City of Tacoma, one of the bigger changes has been that I no longer catch the latest wave of controversy or intrigue about Apple's twists and turns on the first moment they hit the Mac Web. Sometimes I miss out on something significant, but most of the time I simply find out about the latest silly tempest in a teapot after a few of the most ludicrous story lines have melted away.

[Danschimpf.blogspot.com] MacJournal Development Blog: If MacJournal crashes on you, look for a crash log in ~/Library/Logs/CrashReporter and include that in your report. If there's some funny behavior, try looking in the Console (in /Applications/Utilities/) and include any output related to MacJournal in your report. Please be specific about things that you are doing that aren't working out, whether it's a crash or a behavior that you don't like.
