Power Mac G4 MDD and Quicksilver issues.

[MacTalk] But still why is it so slow downloading, using PCI ethernet cards for older PCs work perfect, just with Macs, maybe compatibility issue or something. I am only assuming as I have no idea how to fully use a Mac yet

Power Mac G4 problem: can't select more than 256 colours on monitor!

[mactalk] I'd upgrade to OSX unless you have a software program you absolutely need to run in OS9. If you are using the bog standard 4X AGP NVIDIA GeForce 2 MX which came with the Mac and connected the Aluminium Display to it via the DVI port then OS9 is probably struggling to cope with the later extensions the monitor requires to run under thousands or millions of colours as Byrd points out.

Anyone in Canberra with a working Powermac G4 I can lend to ...

[MacTalk] The reason I need 10.5.8 (or even just 10.5.0) on my HD is that many of my user installed applications/utilities were installed under 10.5.8 and once I was forced (due to a catastrophic system crash) to reinstall Panther (I only have install discs for Puma & Panther) I found that most of my added applications/utilities would no longer launch under Panther plus a few actually require 10.4 or 10.5 to run and of course I can't upgrade the OS due to my Quicksilver being too unstable to take any OS upgrades by any means (its strongly suspected of having a faulty memory controller, faulty logic board, possible faulty processor board, plus possible faulty firewire ports, plus who knows what else)
