[Unu.novajo.ca] Simple.: That's sounds reasonable but I still have a question: you can accomplish that with ssh (connect to a machine, run a command and collect the result), so why Xgrid? I suspect the answer is twofold: 1) to connect to a machine with ssh, you need an account on that machine (with shell acess) and if you do, then you can pretty much do anything you want on that machine (not so good for the owner) and 2) if you use BEEP instead of ssh, you can transfer things other than just text (from reading the documentation at http://www.beepcore.org).
[Tuaw.com] The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW): Speaking of, if time is critical to your users, give them a replacement machine and do each machine one at a time, and leave it bare Tiger for a full day with no applications or users other than yourself, to make sure that there are not any unforseen hardware incompatibilities with Tiger itself. Then proceed from step 6 only after you've verified that the machine and Tiger are both in good shape.
[Blogd.com] The Blog From Another Dimension: Mac OS X Beats Out Windows XP ...: OS X is simply very lavish operating system, consuming CPU power on animating even the stupid Dock - and therefore possibly causing even capture dropouts etc. Ridiculous, typical 'design first, usage second' thinking which perfectly describes Jobs distorted view.
