Love the Mac > New iBooks Coming at WWDC?

[PocketFactory - Gadgets, Gizmos, and Mobile Devices] I've heard from various sources that new iBook models may be announced at Apple's upcoming World Wide Developers Conference (WWDC). Excatly what improvements these new models will offer I wasn't told, though a speed bump is almost a certainly, as is a lower-priced entry level model.

[Entropy] MWSF ”˜05 Predictions.: think that card is gonna be played closer to WWDC (Apple’s World Wide Developers Conference). The people that go to WWDC are the people that will cream their shorts getting an additional 500MHz out of a G5, not the (relatively) poor consumer level people that MWSF is targeted at. Obviously iBooks

[Richardsnotes.org] Richard’s Notes » Blog Archive » Looks like G5 PowerBooks are coming: Makes perfect sense and I agree. However, maybe there’s a large speed bump coming in G5s and Apple wants the entire line except mini to go G5. If that’s the case, the current G5 linup will speed bump, the PBs will come in faster, and the iBooks at the lowest speed. Just a hunch, I really have no idea but, would love to have the iBook’s AirPort range in a PowerBook so if they ever went G5 I might consider a 12″ model (the 14″ seems like a dog to me for some reason).

[Blog.dietsoda.net] blog.dietsoda.net: Hello Stranger: 30 Jun saw the delivery of close to 6,000 iBooks at 5 school sites in the district. Because of that, and the planning and strategising required for the deployment, I felt my presence was needed in FL and not at WWDC. In the long run, I have access to all of the ADC sessions via Apple's IS&T web site -- and through ADC itself. It would have been nice to have met new people -- and to try and take a trip to the Apple campus so I could see my friends and buy some things -- but I'm not disappointed.

[Forums.macnn.com] MacNN Forums - So, when will the new iBooks come?: I don't think that we'll be seeing a PB G5 before the holiday season, iBooks even later. While i do use a G5 at home, and it is faster for movie editing, 3d etc. I fail to see the need for it in the iBook line, remember that the system was designed for students, they need something rugged, something small, that LASTS a long time (i assume that G5 will tear through batteries) and something that is within an acceptable price range.

[Forums.applenova.com] AppleNova Forums - College laptop - what to buy, and when?: I really wish I'd gotten an Apple rather than the crappy Compaq laptop I had when I was in school, so you're definitely making the right choice. You might want to wait until after WWDC in June to see if they bump the iBooks, but they're probably not going to make a radical change. My guess is that they might bump the CPU to a 1.4gHz G4 and make 512MB of RAM standard. WWDC is the first week in June, so you'll have time to still use that coupon.
