[netkas.org] I updated from a fresh install then edited the ATI..X2000.kext and the ATI4600..kext adding my dev id on both 0×9498 and I was also having a black screen (monitor going to sleep). I also tried the beta kext on irc and it was having the same black screen problem.

CDROM audio of G3 iBook crackles and distorts - macosx.com
[macosx.com] It sounds like something is either crossed or not properly grounded with the cable for the CD-ROM drive. Since songs ripped from this CD-ROM also exhibit this behavior, it's likely that the CD-ROM data cable is either damaged or severely bent/crimped (or, perhaps the CD-ROM drive itself!)
