Love the Mac > Mac Useless Geek Tip
[Peachwater, Tx. Journal] I was running a PowerMac QuickSilver G4 on OS 9.2.2 and 10.3.9, a PowerMac G5 (Dual 2.3GHz!) on 10.4.1, and an iMac 20-inch G5 on 10.4. I had the two desktop computers connected into the same 19" LCD monitor and was able to switch between the two inputs. Having three keyboards clustered together on the desktop was a bit confusing, but luckily one had black keys, the other white, and the third was pushed off to the side until it was needed.

[Andre: Teching It Easy] Apple On Leveled Playing Field.: This is a huge undertaking for the Macintosh Industry, which has just settled the dust migrating from OS 9 to 10. So we will see another 5 versions of OS X refining itself on x86. The transition might be more doable with Apples new developer hand holding through new tools such as xCode 2.1, Rosetta Emulation which is way faster than Classic was running on X for compatibility, $999 Developer Connection kit which includes a leased x86 PowerMac for getting your application ready to move to Mac OS X x86 through new developer coding techniques known as fat binaries that are able to run on both PPC and x86 and the simple recompiling of certain applications that are based on Apples Cocoa API.
[PrebleNY.com - Since 6/2/2000 Now in Our Sixth Year!] My Continuing Mac Dilemma: To think otherwise would be foolhardy. One of the things I considered doing in the interim was to buy a faster CPU card for my PowerMac and I just realized that at some point in the future I should be able to buy an Intel CPU upgrade card for my PowerMac. I know this because there are a lot of PowerMacs in the market that could be upgraded and if I was in the business of making upgrade cards I would be doing one. However, the only Macs that can be upgraded are the G4 PowerMac towers, not the G5 towers nor the iMac or PowerBook/iBook laptops.
[Gigaom.com] Om Maliks Broadband Blog » iMac G5 Meltdown: They where there… two cracks in the front plastic case comimg from the bottom angles of the screen. This cracks are only in the transparent plastic and not on white plastic under it, also the screen works perfect, but now my imac looks like shit, and the support of apple ignored the problem, and I swear I did not knok it or anything… It looks as the plastic case that was hot (cause I never shut down my mac) reacted with the cold fluid or something. Now I just want to cry… any ideas what could be the issue here, and is it possible to replace the whole front cover without changing the LCD.
[Blogger.xs4all.nl] m1ks Blog: There was the magnificent 30″ attached to a Powermac G5 ofcourse, but I have limited funding so I did not feel the need to entise myself too much with gear I cannot afford anyway ;). The smelly salesboy told me I could look at the iMac G5 instead, because the 20″ version has the same panel in it as the new 20″ Cinema. So he claimed. But I know Apple uses the old 20″ TFT panel for the iMac G5s.

[Theandyzone.com] G4, G5, and AMD Shoot-Out!-Page 1: The Dual 2GHz PowerMac G5 machine had 512MB RAM in the optimized test set and 1 GB RAM in the non-optimized test set. The dual 2.0 GHz and 1.8 GHz G5 benchmarks were run with the Energy Saver CPU setting on "Highest" in the non-optimized tests and"Automatic" in the optimized tests. (NOTE: I re-ran the G4 PowerMac Cinebench tests using Panther. The differences laid in the 1%-2% range, so I considered them insignificant factor and did not update the G4 results.) The 1.8 GHz G5 iMac had 1 GB RAM with a Nvidia GeForce FX 5200 GPU with 64MB video RAM) and was run with Eneregy Saver at "Highest" under Panther (OS 10.3.6).
[Macworld.com] Editors' Notes Weblog: iMac: The Missing Memory - Macworld Forums: One thing that most people do not realise is that Apple is doing this for the resellers such as the catalog companies and independant shops such as mine. On the consumer level machines, (iBooks, iMacs, eMacs) the profit margin is razor-thin such that if we have to pay for shipping from our distribution companies (Tech Data and Ingram Micro) and our customer wishes to pay with a credit card, we stand to actually lose money.
