[The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)] PVR to Mac Solutions: Which do you use?: Since you all know that I have a ReplayTV and use mReplay or DVArchive to grab shows for mobile viewing on my Powerbook, I thought I'd turn the question around to you: What PVR do you have and what do you use to grab shows off of it? Do you use something in particular to grab shows off of your TiVo box, or perhaps enjoy HDTV conversion to the Mac over Firewire with your Comcast PVR? Do you use a Mac mini in combination with an El Gato EyeTV?

[Pvrblog.com] Mac mini - a killer Home Theater PC in the making? | PVRblog: You'll find that the Mac Mini's performance quite satisfactory and for HTPC, it is a pretty good deal. For those looking at the EyeTV option, they have a usb 2.0 box for regular cable and a Firewire box for HDTV (only for terrestial broadcasts though). I can't confirm but I believe the audio out might be a combo digital/analog out like the Airport Express.

[Pvrblog.com] Newsweek: Netflix and TiVo to announce partnership, offer ...: Noodling Netflix: In the hoopla over a possible linkup between Netflix and TiVo, something appears to have been lost on investors: Even if the two strike some kind of deal allowing Netflix (NFLX: news, chart, profile) subscribers to access movies by downloading them onto a TiVo for a monthly subscription price or on a pay-per-view basis, it's unlikely the library of titles will be anywhere near the 25,000 Netflix now claims -- at least not any time soon. Ditto Netflix's plans to offer download services, which the company has suggested will happen next year.

[Byopvr.com] Build Your Own PVR :: Why Tivo When you can Freevo?: It's meant to be a shake and bake PVR kit in a box with a Conexant chipset based hardware MPEG encoding tuner card, BeyondTV Subscriber Edition, Beyond Media (full), FireFly remote control, and most of the possible cable combinations you'd need to set up your DIY PVR. A pretty darn good package for $130 bucks, but you'll need to wait for the official review to know if it's worth it =)

I'm wondering if there is a mini-screen around that will work with it; a flatscreen less than 12" that I can take back and forth. Seems like there'd be a market for this. Apple mentions that they intend theMac mini to be used as a convergence device on the product's page, where they suggest usersuse the Mac mini in their living room (they use the word den, but I don't knowanyone who uses that word, nor anyone who has a "den"). So, if you're lookingfor a TiVo replacement, this might be a category worth bookmarking.
