iPhoto Color Shift Bug, identified?
[Joe Maller] Based on a lot of good information in the MacInTouch iPhoto Report, a massive thread on Apple Discussions and my own experience with Apple’s image manipulation tools, I think I’ve found the basis of this bug. James Bailey’s observation on MacInTouch specifically identifies the problem:
Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.
[Googlefaughnan.blogspot.com] Gordon's Tech: iPhoto 5 bug - color shifting (Macintouch): It seems that iPhoto is not properly re-saving the embedded profile of an edited file, turning it into an 'untagged' file (without color management information). When a color-managed application such as Photoshop or iPhoto opens what it sees as an untagged file, it will assign whatever default RGB profile it happens to be using, thus displaying shifted color.
[Tuaw.com] The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW): Some of the MacInTouch readers are reporting receiving the following message when trying to connect to non-Tiger systems via file sharing: "This file server uses an incompatible version of the AFP protocol. You cannot connect to it."
[Macintouch.com] MacInTouch Home Page: Captain FTP 4.2 is a Mac OS X FTP/SFTP/SSL client that supports Unicode, editing of remote files with BBEdit and other editors, editing of remote directories and permissions, multi-threaded operation, Rendezvous discovery, synchronization, direct transfer over a LAN, server-to-server file transfer, and more. This release is Tiger compatible and adds Automation Manager to automate file and folder transfers at set dates and times and to repeat at specified intervals, OS/400 FTP Server support, faster display updates, and other improvements.
