[Tuaw.com] The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW): Dashboard widgets run in their own process ('sandbox') and Apple have put limits on what a widget can do. They're also subject to the normal security precautions built in to Mac OS X accounts ie they can't run as root, etc.
