Also it seems that connecting a USB device, or interacting with the built-in camera, somehow change the state of something on the motherboard, like for instance the system bus speed, which in turn remove the noise.

 [Digg.com] Bye Bye Dashboard.: Often times when I invoke the Dashboard (on a G5, mind you), it freezes up for a second while everything is zooming past when I have several widgets that want to use my network connection to get information. If Dashboard had a background/cron process to have all of the widgets refresh periodically even when not invoked, I would love it.
