Love the Mac > Buy My Friend's Macs

http://alabut.com/nonsense [:: Al Abut ::] My friend David is selling both his 15" G4 powerbook and a loaded Powermac G5 to make room for a Macbook Pro in his arsenal. They both look like pretty good deals, especially the G5 with 3 gigs of RAM and Applecare.

[Engadget] 30 years in Apple products: the good, the bad,... : commercial and formally introduced by a bow-tied Steve Jobs at Apple's 1984 shareholders' meeting (where the computer quipped about how glad it was to be taken out of Steve's bag), really did change the world of personal computing. Though GUI-based computers had been available earlier (including on Apple's own Lisa), the first Mac brought the concept to the masses.

[ MacMove] My beef with the MacBook Pro: I’ve been chewing things over in my mind for a while now, since just about when Apple announced the MacBook Pro back at MWSF, trying to decide what I think of it. I’ve done a lot of research and reading, mulling this question over for a while.

[insaint.net] Google Page Creator: Few more things”¦ Gorgeous on TV ad (recorded by my cousin) and a T-shirt for the geeks (who says geeks ain’t romantic?).

[stuffonfire.com] End of an Era: Like, PowerBooks were famous for cooking the laps on which they rested, but I think this MacBook Pro might actually run hotter. Part of this might be because it's a new toy, so I'm working both cores a bit more than I might in normal usage.

[Matt.makalumedia.com] matt.makalumedia.com » Blog Archive » 12”³ Powerbook G4: I decided to make a change this year, and purchased a dual-G5 desktop machine, to be complemented by a 12″ Aluminum Powerbook G4 (1GHz, SuperDrive).

[Glorifiedtypist.com] Glorified Typist: MacBook Pro: Updated build timings: rather, these are desktop machines put to various uses in the office, and Xcode makes use of them if they're available: engineering workstations, office computers, etc. Clearly, distributed builds are a win if you've got the horsepower otherwise sitting idle, but on a cost-to-benefit basis I wouldn't recommend that you run out and buy machines to make a build farm.

http://blog.wired.com [Blog.wired.com] Wired News: 30 Years of Apple Products: Introduced in October 2005, the PowerBook G4 (DL-SD) would be the last Apple portable machine to carry the PowerBook name, and was an odd upgrade: Though it included faster RAM, higher screen resolution, and a dual layer SuperDrive, the processor speed was left alone, most likely because a faster G4 processor would have run too hot. The PowerBook G4 (DL-SD) was available in two configurations: the 15.2-inch model was $1999 and the 17.1-inch model was $2499.

[Wpram.com] Apple | Archives | William Computer Blog: I went to Apple Center this afternoon to get an Airport Extreme Card and I notice the 15-inch PowerBook G4 is really gone from the display. I asked the shop employee if MacBook Pro is available, and the answer is “No, and we’re NOT even sure when we’ll get it”.

http://jeffsolomon.com [Jeffsolomon.com] Jeff_Solomon.blog: I opened up a 200 Meg file and was able to zoom in and navigate around, make modifications, and export files about as quickly as I could on my PowerBook. An interesting note is that scrolling through the layers palate was painfully slow until I'd reached the very bottom.
