Love the Mac > Apple to ditch IBM for Intel
[TachyonXero] Yes, you read that correctly. (Though I would have gone with AMD personally) You can get the whole story at CNET.com

[discarded lies: where blogs are blogs and the bloggers know it] Hell freezes over, pigs fly, etc: The announcement is expected Monday at Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference in San Francisco, at which Chief Executive Steve Jobs is giving the keynote speech. The conference would be an appropriate venue: Changing the chips would require programmers to rewrite their software to take full advantage of the new processor.
[Scattered] Apple switch: One of the main reasons I thought Apple never did this before was pirating; ‘cause everyone has a Windows install paid or not so why would they want to pay another $100 for another OS that they probably would just play with. Intel has the solution with their upcoming chips incorporating copy-right protection on chip. I personally hate the way Intel is going with this but it is inevitable, if the US can introduce the Patriot act then I guess we will have a cop that shuts down our computer when we are bad. About the OS, Jared: No, Apple will never open their OS as open source, so get over it.
[Radio News America] Apple to ditch IBM, switch to Intel chips: Apple successfully navigated a switch in the 1990s from Motorola's 680x0 line of processors to the Power line jointly made by Motorola and IBM. That switch also required software to be revamped to take advantage of the new processors' performance, but emulation software permitted older programs to run on the new machines. (Motorola spinoff Freescale currently makes PowerPC processors for Apple notebooks and the Mac Mini.)
[toasterdesigns] Apple Switching to Intel Processors?!: Oh well… this can only be good for us x86 loyalists, because in time, whether or not Apple decides to allow Mac OS to run on anything other than their own computers (I hardly see this changing, too) will no longer matter — emulation of Mac OS on x86 architecture will be as good as solid with the OS practically having been re-compiled for it.
[philcrissman.com - Home] Apple Switching to Intel: It seems that CNet is suggesting that Apple is switching to Intel from IBM PowerPC chips. Despite the confident tone of the article, neither IBM, Intel, or Apple would comment. Supposedly this will be happening in 2006 for the low end machines, such as the Mac-mini, 2007 for the rest.

After all, my phone (the one that's irradiating me as I sit here and write) goes everywhere with me and the only reason it doesn't function as my full-time PDA or MP3 player (or digital camera for that matter) [...]</p>

[Radio.weblogs.com] Steve Pilgrim's Radio Weblog: It would be ridiculous to discount a company like IBM by almost 38% in four months over the departure of one person. It would also be somewhat of a slap in Sam Palmisano's face, too. Clearly, worldwide demand for technology has been impacted by the business cycle, the downside of the usual economic cycle and the uncertainty that world politics brings to any possible recovery.
