A telescope and astronomy software

[Ti Kouka Too] A few weeks ago I bought a cheap telescope for astronomy. It's a Chinese no-name 114 mm reflector with an equatorial mount and on the few clear nights we've had since then I've been having some fun looking at things.

Some slightly related from Technorati and Google.

http://shallows.blogspot.com [Trolling in Shallow Water] The latest in core collapse astronomy: 25, 2003, UC Berkeley researchers had discovered a Type Ic supernova using Filippenko's automated supernova search telescope, the Katzman Automatic Imaging Telescope (KAIT) at the University of California's Lick Observatory. Called SN 2003jd, the supernova was about 260 million light years away in the constellation Aquarius.

These two exceptional women are going through great lengths to make sure our Mauna Kea Observatories Communication Network will be up to the task of supporting all of the observers at all of the telescopes on the mountain, and the whims of a certain outreach officer in Hilo.

Telescope reviews: reflecting telescopes ...: An Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope has features of both a refractor (eyepiece at the bottom) and reflector (uses lenses) but is considerably shorter and more compact than either one. The Schmidt Cassegrain telescope is very similar to the Maksutov-Cassegrain below, but it uses a thinner, less complex corrector plate at the top of the telescope making it a more affordable and lighter in weight when used in large telescopes.
