G5: Dual or Dual core? - Digi User Conference

[Digi User Conference] Well it can't be any more limited than my Gigabit ethernet G4 Sawtooth that I put a dual 1.4 fastmac processor in and currently runs PT 7.3 in Tiger pretty flawlessly at about 24-28 tracks with 14 plugs at mixdown. I'm looking for speed, more plugs, etc.

[The Daily Dirt Chess Blog] I think rdh said that a reasonable person might suspect Team Topalov in San Luis but that there wasn't enough evidence to persuade him that VT was actually cheating. And I definitely don't recall him (or anyone else) voicing any sort of suspicion that VT cheated at Elista.

Power Mac G5 for editing EX3 footage - The Digital Video ...

[The Digital Video Information Network] Better yet, get the last generation of the MacBook Pro and stick 4 gigs of RAM in it and you'll get the Expresscard slot, FW800, Intel Core 2 Duo CPU and a nice screen with ability to hook up another display (this is what I use quite often and it works great).

Replacing a power supply on a G4 PowerMac 400mghz - ehMac.ca

[ehMac.ca] Some don't power up at all and some the fan comes on but no other signs of "life". Anyhow, I managed to switch a PS from one to the other and get it working but it was a tough job getting it out of one unit and into the other and I figure I must be doing it wrong.

[MacTalk Forums] There is no where to plug in the fire wire lead from the screen. Can I use an extension fire wire lead to come around to the front of the machine or use a converter, fire wire to fire wire 400.

Final Cut Pro, HDV and PowerBook G4 « 37prime

[37prime] MacBook Pro are much more powerful compared to any PowerBook G4, but it doesn’t make them completely obsolete. Consider that MacBook Pro has ExpressCard slot built-in and PowerBook G4 (15-inch and 17-inch models) have PC Card slot built-in.

Powermac G5 fan fluctuation issues - MacTalk Forums

[MacTalk Forums] I've got a temperature monitor and cpu A temp is around 47 degrees and cpu B is about 48 degrees so I don't believe the computer is overheating. One of the rear exhaust fans isn't spinning at all and I have plans to replace it but I don't believe that one broken fan is causing the rest of the fan speeds to fluctuate like that.

Benchmarks: Power Mac G4/500 Dual

[Low End Mac] This computer has 768 MB of RAM (three 256 MB PC133-333 modules) andan 80 GB 7200 rpm Deskstar, which is one of my favorite hard drives.The drive has been repartitioned since I tested at 450 MHz - it now hasMac OS X 10.2.8, 10.3.9, 10.4.11, and 10.5.6 installed. The system wasconfigured with a Kensington mouse, Acer keyboard, and 17" Samsung700DF monitor at 1024 x 768 resolution and millions of colors for the500 MHz tests.

powerbook battery sleep below 70% charge - macosx.com

[macosx.com] I have an 800mhz titanium powerbook and two batteries. I got the powerbook fairly recently from a friend but notice that when running the computer on the just the batteries without the charger that the laptop will automatically go to sleep and not wake up around the 70% battery full mark.

Report: Layoffs Hit G4 | GamePolitics

[GamePolitics News] Extended Play (Shortened, prior to the buyout, to X-Play with something of a G4 induced changed format, but atleast the original premise is still there an Adam gives a good lesson every now and then. Kate was with him for a while, and before her was Lauren, but then came Morgan and I have no complaints.

[Joystiq] I was an avid watcher of it's predecessor, The Screen Savers, and I hated how G4 warped that show in search of the younger demographic. It used to be an informative computer & technology show, but I couldn't tell you what the point of AOTS now.

[IntoMobile] The technology that the iPhone uses to quickly and smoothly render graphics on the iPhone’s display is allegedly covered in a patent held by Picsel. The company claims that without Picsel’s graphics rendering technology, iPhone users would suffer long delays when zooming or panning around documents, web pages and pictures.

[The Unofficial Apple Weblog (TUAW)] At this point, of course, this is just a complaint in the copyright office, and Apple hasn't made any legal moves yet against anyone responsible for jailbreaking. As the EFF states, it would be extremely hard for them to go after individual jailbreakers -- if you buy an iPhone, it should be your right to "get under the hood," as they say, and do what you want.

[TheAppleBlog] PowerBook is a particularly good example of Apple laptop hardware, one of the great Mac notebooks of all time, and I even think its 4:3 aspect ratio display is a more sensible solution in a small laptop than the 16:10 widescreen in my new MacBook, but in terms of being a practical road-warrior laptop, I think it’s pretty much a wash except for the MacBook’s vastly superior speed and power.

[Sniptools] Doesn’t really offer a huge set of functions — do you REALLY need to update just the bootup screen while risking affecting OSX system files? Be careful with these kind of untried third party utils on OSX because OS repairing is one aspect in which Leopard is hideously weaker than Windows.

[making games, making webs.] Emulating the C API of python will allow ironpython to use many existing optimized C extensions. Now that the approach has been proven to work, I hope other python implementations take note of this research proof -- and provide a CPython API emulation.
