Open IT Strategieshttp://blog.openitstrategies.com/2008/08/nokia-dont-get-no-respect.html [Open IT Strategies] Nokia don't get no respect: Quite a verdict, considering that Nokia sells close to half of all smart phones worldwide (and 40% of all phones) and has 9,200 applications written for its phones. In early July it plunked down $410 million to buy the portion of Symbian it didn't already own.Unlike David, I think the article is pretty fair —

Ekim Seekem[Ekim Seekem] Mac Talk ~ Episode 1: An iMac with even good specs would cost about $2000 or more, and what’s sad is I don’t need the LCD, which is adding about $500 to the cost of the machine.  So, why doesn’t Apple make a mid-range tower?  From where they stand, their profit margin with their current lineup is fairly high and lets not talk about their markup on upgrades, which is close to 300%.  If they sell a Mac Pro, there’s a chance that computer will last a really long time at what it does, it will eventually get replaced when software needs to move forward, something Apple is good at moving along.  If they sell someone an iMac, chances are in a few years that computer will be replaced because of hardware shortfalls.  This plan insures Apple will see business from the same customer every 4 years, even if the product itself won’t die for another 10 years even.  I fully expect my G5 to run non-stop for another 10 years if I told it to, Macs are just made that way, always have been, versus a PC that just withers away in 4 years forcing the consumer to buy a new computer because the last one literally died.

palmaddicts[palmaddicts] As impressive as it is, A letter to Apple...: But wowed when I saw the first GUI when I started my career in a small ad firm where I fell in love with early Macs. Then years passed and I fully got into PC for almost a decade until iPod and Intel Macs wowed me again.

VIBE[VIBE] Study Finds Macs Cost 2X Windows PCs: With increased pressure from consumers and the industry overall, it will make sense for Apple to introduce systems in between its current offerings, which at this point leave a big gap between the low end and the high end. From the comments on Tom’s Hardware alone the biggest complaint is that people can source systems not necessarily from IBM, HP or Dell, that cost much less than the awkwardly configured Mac Pro ”” especially from the stand point of heavy gaming needs.

metalminer[metalminer] No Metal Mac - iPhone Cuts Metal to Save Costs: I recently purchased a new 3G Apple iPhone but was dismayed to learn upon unpacking the oh-so-cool chi-chi box that the venerable tech giant - now as large as Google from a market cap standpoint - had replaced the metal casing with a .

Rittblog IIhttp://rittchard.wordpress.com/2008/08/04/there-and-back-again-the-making-of-an-apple-fanboy/ [Rittblog II] There and Back Again”¦ The Making of an Apple Fanboy: computational software was running on mainframes at the time, we did the majority of documentation and presentations on an old Mac Plus, and eventually on some Power Macs.  Because of this, most of my data and graphs were on a Mac, and I ended up writing my entire doctoral dissertation on an old Macintosh IIci (completed in 1998)!  Somewhere during this period, I also briefly fiddled with an Apple Newton, which I thought was just the coolest thing on the planet at the time, but never got much real use out of.  I think I still have it sitting in the closet or garage somewhere.  So oddly enough, even though I functioned as a PC Gamer “snob” of sorts (I was known to often pan the Apple line for its expensive prices and lack of new/good games), I was always surrounded by and acutely aware of the Apple platform.  From time to time, I would flirt with the idea of trying a Mac at home but nothing would make me take the plunge, the closest thing being that cool looking Borg Cube contraption.  A lot of my friends and colleagues in college were avid Apple fans, but I held fast that until they had the top tier games playable, I’d always be a PC man.

The iPod (with video) was available in both black and white in two configurations: the 30 GB model sold for $299, and the 60 GB for $399.

Christopher Blizzard[Christopher Blizzard] building the complete browser for everyone everywhere: Given the strategic value of the native platform as part of Apple’s offerings, their investment in WebKit will (or at least should) always lag behind. We’re investing everything we have in the web and our platform and it’s starting to pay dividends.

Alan's World in a Bloghttp://alanly.wordpress.com/2008/08/14/thoughts-on-operating-systems/ [Alan's World in a Blog] Thoughts on operating systems.: Mac OS has long been the alternative to Windows, and as of late they have enjoyed a tremendous growth due in part to the popularity of their MacBook line of notebook computers that has enjoyed positive reviews and has been adopted by many college and university students. The sudden adoption of Macs have been influenced in part due to the negativity surrounding Windows Vista and people’s willingness to try a different approach and alternative to things.
