Activating OSX Remote assistance via an IM chat

http://ask.metafilter.com [Ask MetaFilter | Community Weblog] I'd write an AppleScript that looks up the remote IP and pastes it into the iChat window. I'm not sure if ARD has a protocol handler, but if it does you could wrap the IP in that and it'd be one-click for you.

RailsConf 2006 - Chicago

Jitterin' Thoughts[Jitterin' Thoughts] The great thing about his session is that not only did he touch on some philosophical issues he was dealing with - the undertone and focus of the talk was how to tweak lighttpd to do better at running not only Rails applications, but also deal with issues bandwidth people like me hate: waste - he also went into detail on how things like mod_proxy are supposed to work and what is going to be done to fix them (with regards to melding a number of mod_'s into mod_proxy). It seemed that he was focused on doing it right instead of simply trying to please everyone who uses his product (although it was obvious he was open to making improvements and adding features).

Visor: Terminal anywhere

[iNik | A pathetic waste of high technology...] Visor, the new application from Blacktree, creates a half-screen terminal window that pops up with the press of a hot key. This terminal is persistent, so when it’s in the background, it just keeps on going and going and going.

Palm Syncing Woes

http://ask.metafilter.com [Ask MetaFilter | Community Weblog] From what I've read, if you don't buy Missing Sync, a Palm is essentially useless for the Mac unless you want to use Palm Desktop. I can understand your hesitation to shell out the $40 if you don't know if you want to keep the Palm.

MacBook: The mooing noise disaster

http://www.betalogue.com [Betalogue] So I finished configuring the machine, transferred all my wife’s stuff, and then set up the machine on her desk, where it would sit on the old ALZAmela PowerBook stand that we had for the PowerBook G4 and where the new MacBook still fit. My wife’s desk is usually uncluttered, and I figured that the stand would definitely provide sufficient air flow to avoid any over-heating issues.
