Back to Panther
[Exigency In Specie] I tried to track down what was causing the lack of logs, but to no avail, so decided to try reinstalling the operating system files. Having done the reinstall, aside from having accidentally lost all of the e-mail downloaded that morning, everything seemed to work ok, until the Software Update system upgraded to version 10.4.2, at which point I was getting an error whenever fetchmail tried to start.

Pleistocene Park USA
[Audit Trails of Self] This is presented as an alternative conservation strategy for the twenty-first century, but could very well introduce new variables into the American ecosystem leading to unintended consequences, for example, other species falling ill from new bacteria. Pasteboard in Mac OS X
[Notes from a messy desk] This means that, for example, you can dump the output of a shell script straight to the clipboard, rather than letting it flow to stdout, then selecting and copying the output from the terminal (something I do quite often, particularly when Im trying to write documentation or tutorials). The other thing I learned (both from the pbcopy(1) manual page and from a post on the TextMate users mailing list) was that there are multiple Pasteboards in Mac OS X.

Tiger Woods PGA Tour Review
[ û Portable Gaming Revolution] When I first saw the list of games available for the PSP I was surprised to see two golf titles come out that early after launch, these being Tiger Woods PGA Tour and Hot Shots Golf. Now, I’m not the biggest golf fan but when I buy any sport game I like it to be as realistic and as close to the actual sport as possible, this is why I picked up Tiger Woods despite the raving reviews for Hot Shots.

Are Apple iBooks Worth This?
[Todays Democracy : News, Feature Stories, Entertainment, Business, Science & Technology] The local press is not apportioning blame for the fiasco, although we would like to suggest that Apple be exonerated in this case and the finger pointed at the true culprit - Dell. After all, if the company did not offer such top-notch products at unbeatable prices to the US education system, then Richmond would not have had to witness these disgraceful scenes.

I finally have a mac!
[davids brain blog] Just like using RoR to make web app development easy by removing all the tedious rubbish and making everything intuitive, switching to a mac from Windows I just have to think….if Windows is supposed to be the champion of the less able user that requires guidance and fluffy buttons to help him use his computer, then what does Windows have that makes it better suited for this than a mac? When first trying to install a program, I was somewhat bemused by the single file that had downloaded for my firefox install.

Yahoo / Google divergence
[Ben Werdmuller :: Weblog] Google Earth is a pretty magnificent piece of software, which Google Maps is a web-based echo of, and they have pages that allow you to see where individual taxi cabs are in various US cities, check out pizza joints in your neighbourhood and develop escape plans in the event of a terrorist attack. (If this last one seems incongruous, consider Google's well known participating with the Chinese government, and then consider how much more they've probably done with the US administration.) They've also released an API allowing their searching / mapping technologies to be harnessed by anyone who wants to develop a free web application.
